About TOA Pacific
Supporting our community through care, connection, and culturally grounded services

Our Story
For over 20 years, TOA Pacific has been dedicated to empowering Pacific communities across Aotearoa by providing culturally grounded support, advocacy, and services that strengthen wellbeing, independence, and connection.
TOA Pacific began in 1995 under Methodist Mission Northern, when services were first established to support Pacific older adults in Central Auckland. The work was led by Malia Hamani, who worked independently in the early years to build strong community connections, encourage elders to access home support, and establish more than 60 elder groups within 18 months through Pacific churches.
In 2000, following consultation with Pacific church ministers, the name TOA Pacific meaning Treasuring Older Adults was adopted. That same year, the organisation launched New Zealand’s first dedicated Pacific Elder Abuse and Neglect Prevention Contract, continuing its commitment to protecting and supporting Pacific elders. In 2003, TOA Pacific became an independent organisation, building on its strong foundations while continuing to grow its services.
Today, TOA Pacific delivers a range of programmes that support Pacific older adults, families, and communities. This includes our MAAMA Programme, family support services, and wellbeing initiatives that promote independence, connection, and dignity.
Each year, we support over 500 families and more than 150 Pacific elders, and we are recognised as one of New Zealand’s longest-serving organisations dedicated to Pacific elder wellbeing and community support.
Everything we do is guided by our core values: respect, community, culture, service, and integrity. These values shape how we care for people and how we continue to strengthen Pacific families and communities across Aotearoa.
Together, we remain committed to building a future where Pacific people can thrive, stay connected, and age with dignity.
